A CALL

EEGS is a world-leading professional geophysical society dedicated to solving the problems of the near surface through applied environmental and engineering geophysical technology. The Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems (SAGEEP), in partnership with EEGS, is an innovative and pioneering professional educational program, spanning more than 20 years of successful outreach.

SAGEEP continues to educate EEGS professionals today on many critical issues facing tomorrow’s world:

· Water resources

· Site characterizations

· Remediation assessments

· Engineering evaluations

· Unexploded ordnance mapping

· Precision agricultural measurements

A World of Needs, A World of Cooperation

Reflecting a growing international awareness of, and interest in, global issues, over 30% of EEGS members now reside outside the United States. EEGS has formal relationships with the following organizations and international conferences:

· EAGE-NSD (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers – Near Surface Division)

· SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists)

· SEG-J (Society of Exploration Geophysicists – Japan)

· ASEG (Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists

· AEG Annual Convention (Association of Exploration Geophysicist – India)

· ICEEG 2004-8 (International Conference on Environmental and Engineering Geophysics – China)

The Promotion of EEGS

Demand for EEGS’ programs and outreach has surpassed its financial resources. This is due to industry-wide recognition of the benefits of participating in EEGS’ program tracks. They include:

· Water Resources

· Hydrology

· Environmental

· Mining

· Engineering

· Hazardous Waste

· Superfund

· Military Support (UXO)

· Infrastructure

· Civil Engineering

· Exploration

EEGS’ Plans for Growth

EEGS is encouraging growth in these disciplines by promoting proper application of technologies and the establishment of standards. EEGS offers training opportunities and has collaborations with other professional societies also seeking to improve their environmental and engineering standing and performance. A key priority for the future is to improve information sharing between key constituents for future growth.

The Next Generation of Near Surface Geophysicists

EEGS has initiated an Early Career Award to recognize outstanding university faculty and students. By offering incentives to those who inspire and achieve academic excellence, EEGS gains competitive access to expanded pools of quality candidates as well as opportunities to develop longterm institutional relationships.

A Call to Partnership

Since 2003, EEGS has sought additional financial support for its annual SAGEEP initiative (approximately 10% of its annual budget). To meet the increasing demand for various EEGS programs, the EEGS Foundation, a 501(3)c charitable organization, was founded in 2007 and is actively seeking financial donations for its domestic and international programs. These programs include:

· Endowment for SAGEEP

· Scholarships for Students

· Travel Grants for Students and Professors

· Distinguished Regional Lecture Tours

· Sponsorship for International Conferences and Training Seminars
